Tickets on sale for Strecker fashion show

The annual spring fashion show benefiting patients of the Strecker Cancer Center has jumped the queue in spring events.

“We’re holding it in March after the chamber dinner instead of there between college graduations and Mother’s Day in May,” explained Daneka Hedges, executive director of the Memorial Health Foundation. “That time of May just gets so busy if you’re traveling.”

The annual show offers a night of glitz and glam not only for attendees supporting local merchants but also for those battling or having survived cancer to walk the runway.

Plus, partnering with the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce for set-up and tear-down will allow the annual fashion show to expand its seating and runway this year.

“We tend to have a waiting list for the event, so getting to expand to 800 seats could help more who want to come have a chance at getting a ticket,” said Hedges.

The timing shift also moves the 17th annual event from mid-week to a Friday night.

“For the moms out there that are usually tied up in spring sport seasons like me, this is awesome,” said Carrie Ankrom, Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce president. “I can go this year, and it’s a Friday night so it can be a date night or a full evening out–plus, it’s fun.”

Hedges said six merchants have confirmed support for the show this year including Emleigh and Mama B’s, Teri Ann’s, Sugar Maple Boutique, Peyton and Peppy, Dad’s Primitive Workbench and a Lula Roe local distributor.

“This year, the theme is more elegant and shiny, it could be an incredible date night,” said Hedges. “In the first years, the show was more of a girls’ night, but more recently, we’ve seen more men join us, too.”

About 400 of the 800 tickets have already been sold, and they are only available for purchase via phone.

“We’ve thought about offering them online, but so many people will call wanting the same table as past years that we don’t want to mess with that,” said Hedges. “But perhaps with the date change, more people who couldn’t come in past years can make it now.”

Ticket sales go to support the nonprofit’s fund and are $40 for individual admission and $400 for a table of 10.

Unless sold out, they will be available through March 12.

“We won’t be taking cash at the door, though if you’re coming, you may still bring cash for drinks and raffle prizes,” said Hedges.

She noted she’s still amassing sponsorships from local businesses and those interested may also call the foundation or email foundation@mhsystem.org.
