According to affidavits released Sunday by Mincks, on Monday, May 4, a deputy was dispatched to 676 Mini Storage at 20959 SR 676 in response to a storage unit being entered and several items taken.

Later that day, Lt. Spencer McPeek was dispatched to 676 Mini Storage in response to another storage unit being broken into and had property removed. The victims completed a detailed inventory they advised the property was worth around $30,000.

The initial victim later contacted Lt. McPeek and advised he had gone to his storage unit to retrieve an item last Sunday. He said that when he pulled in, he parked behind a black 4-door Jeep with Ohio plates. He said there was a red Dodge Ram truck parked in front of the Jeep and there were four people loading property into the truck and possibly the Jeep out of the unit he later learned was broken into. He returned to his vehicle and took a picture of the black Jeep and its license plate before leaving and sent the information to law enforcement.

The plate was checked and came back to a 2009 silver Jeep registered to Brenda Lee Baker who lives at 814 Warren Street, Marietta. The Marietta Police Department was contacted and they advised they were familiar with vehicle and it was driven by Baker’s son, Joel A. Johnson, who matched the description of one of the suspects described by one of the victims. Law-enforcement drove by the residence and the plate was now on a black Jeep that appeared to be the Jeep in the picture.

On Saturday, a search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s residence. Inside the residence and garage we recovered dozens of items belonging to the victims

Johnson confessed to going to the storage units on at least two occasions with the other suspects.

Christopher A. Streight was located in the basement of the residence where several stolen items were recovered. He initially denied any knowledge or involvement, however evidence from the crime scene put him there. When Streight was advised he was being arrested, he offered to “tell us everything” if he did not have to go to jail, law-enforcment officials said. His offer was declined, they added.

Chevelle B. Sarver was also located at the residence and confessed to going to the storage units on two occasions while items were being stolen. Sarver said she did not steal anything but admitted she received stolen items from Ashley McAllister.

Deputies then responded to Ashley B McAllister’s residence at 111 Putnam Street, Apt 2, Marietta, where we recovered dozens more stolen items. McAllister admitted to going to the storage units on three occasions and taking items. Ashley McAllister was not arrested at the time.

Deputies then responded to 1025 Sandhill Road, lot 22, and met with Austin W. Wright, Ashley N. Mayle, and Kaylan R. Wallace. During the search of the residence and vehicles, several more stolen items were recovered. A lockbox belonging to a couple of the victims was also found in their bedroom with the lock picked.

Kaylan Wallace admitted to going to the storage unit with Ashley McAllister and Andrea Fry. Wallace was found with some of the victims’ belonging in her possession.

Marietta Police later located Andrea N. Fry during a traffic stop. Deputies met with Fry, who admitted to going to the storage units on one occasion with Ashley McAllister and Kaylan Wallace where they took several items and threw several items around. Fry admitted to receiving some of the stolen property.

Mincks said the suspects will be arraigned, via video, today in Marietta Municipal Court starting at 9 a.m.
