Volunteers turn out for clean up project

From staff reports

PARKERSBURG — As heat soared to 95F on Sunday, volunteers gathered to make downtown Parkersburg a little prettier.

“We’ve had a couple dozen volunteers of all ages divided up on Market Street,” said Jane Burdette, chairman of the Junior League of Parkersburg’s Done In A Day initiative of the clean up project. “We split up from 4th Street and 13th Street and plan to meet in the middle.”

Burdette said volunteers ranged from grade schoolers to retirees. “We have teachers, city councilmen, business owners, candidates…from all walks of life.”

A couple of volunteers couldn’t make it to the event on Sunday and spent part of Saturday doing some cleanup, she said.

“We chose Sunday because of less traffic and more individuals can socially distance,” Sherry Dugan, a volunteer on the clean up projects.

Napoli’s and Wayne Waldeck provided pizza for volunteers.
