23-year-old in custody on rape charges

The 23-year-old Kent man accused of rape of a minor at the beginning of July appeared again in Washington County Common Pleas Court Friday on new charges: pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.

“These are separate cases,” explained Washington County Prosecutor Nicole Coil.

The materials sourced for the three new fourth-degree felony charges relate to alleged child pornography found on Jordan Ross Dieffenbach’s cellular phone when opened through continued investigation via a search warrant after the man’s arrest.

Dieffenbach has remained in custody of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office since his July 6 arrest after allegedly violating a child in the parking lot of Little Hocking Elementary School.

“We’re still extracting photos and materials from the phone, these charges stem from some of the most egregious that have been found so far,” said Coil. “But more charges are certainly possible.”

Assistant Prosecutor David Silwani explained that because the apparent minors in the images found are not photos or still video images of the Washington County minor, the cases will remain separate, including through trial if either or both cases continue before a jury.

Washington County Common Pleas Judge John Halliday set an additional bond of $25,000 on top of the $200,000 bond for the rape charge Dieffenbach already faces.
