¯ Jon Gilbert turned himself in to the Marietta Municipal Court on Jan. 12 on a warrant for a temporary protection order violation. A patrolman transported him to the Washington County Jail without incident.

¯ An officer investigated the passing of a fake $100 bill at the Beer Barn on Jan. 12. The case is under investigation.

¯ An officer was dispatched Jan. 13 to the 900 block of Gilman Street in reference to a bicycle being stolen. The victim advised they saw two men pushing it on Gilman Street. Officers located the two men pushing the stolen bicycle on the Washington Street Bridge. Information was obtained on the suspects with charges pending.

¯ A patrolman spoke to an individual Jan. 14 about his identity being used to fraudulently claim unemployment benefits.

¯ A patrolman was dispatched Jan. 14 to 716 Warren St. in reference to a domestic violence complaint. Upon arrival and after the investigation, Joseph Wesley Myers was arrested for two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal damaging.

¯ On Friday, an officer investigated the report of the theft of two boxes of ammunition from Bridgeport Equipment on Jan. 13. A suspect has been identified from in-store video.

¯ Isaiah Thomas Rutter was taken into custody Friday at 111 W. Montgomery St., Lot 5, for a failure to appear warrant through the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

¯ A patrolman was dispatched Saturday to 736 Greene St. in regards to an apartment being entered and items stolen.

¯ Units located a black 2015 Toyota Corolla at the GetGo gas station Saturday which had a man inside who was known to have active felony warrants. Anthony D. Tilley was arrested on warrants from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. He was also charged with identity fraud and obstructing official business for lying about his identity.

¯ A patrolman was dispatched Monday to 413 1/2 Second St. in reference to a disturbance. This was the second call in a short period of time involving Scott Lee Carpenter being belligerent. After an investigation, Carpenter was arrested for cease and desist and was taken to jail.

Reports/Ohio State Highway Patrol

¯ The Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded Jan. 11 to a one vehicle crash on County Road 20 near milepost 5 in Newport Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Buick Park Avenue was southbound on County Road 20 when it drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The Buick then drove off the left side of the roadway before it struck an embankment and overturned.

The driver and sole occupant, Michael A. Siders, 50, of Charlotte, N.C., succumbed to his injuries and was transported by Newport Fire Department to Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Reports/Washington County

¯ Deputies were dispatched Saturday to 100 Gale Ave., Newport, to a report of a disturbance at this address. Contact was made with Matthew West and two other subjects. West was asked to explain what took place, with him stating he had people over to his residence and they had been drinking. West stated he and another subject got into an argument with other subjects present. West stated the argument got out of hand and there was a “little bit of a tussle”.

After conducting the remainder of the investigation, Matthew Scott West, 29, of 100 Gale Ave., Newport, was placed under arrest and charged with assault.

¯ A lieutenant began an investigation Saturday into an assault inside the Washington County Jail. The victim refused to prosecute the individual responsible. Case closed.

¯ A deputy issued a citation Saturday for driving on a suspended operator’s license to Brandon L. Ball of McConnelsville.

¯ A deputy was dispatched Sunday to 966 Dixon Ridge Road, Lowell, in reference to Dennis Herndon throwing all his wife’s belongings out into the yard. Herndon stated he did this to get her to talk to him. Herndon at one point threw her onto the couch, putting his hands around her throat and choking her. She then was able to exit the residence. After completing the investigation, Dennis Eugene Herndon, 34, was placed under arrest on a charge of domestic violence.

¯ While on patrol Sunday, a sergeant observed a traffic/vehicle violation. The sergeant attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver stopped and once the sergeant pulled in behind him, the vehicle pulled back out onto U.S. 50, and continued travelling towards Belpre.

The vehicle continued on even though the sergeant continued utilizing his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle was eventually stopped with the assistance of a Belpre patrolman. Cesar Jaymin Huck, 25, of 1720 Center Bend Road, Beverly, was identified as the driver. Huck was placed under arrest and charged with fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business, driving under suspension, tail light and rear license plate violations.

¯ On Tuesday, a deputy met with a representative from Charpas LLC who was reporting a Polaris side by side being stolen from the Wesley Township area. This case remains under investigation.
