WALKER — Summer camp staff arrived this week at Boy Scout Camp Kootaga in Walker for the 99th camping season.

Staff will go through training and also are getting the camp ready for the first round of campers on Sunday.

Among staffers is Christopher Burk, the new man on the climbing tower. Burk recently spent a week at The Summit at BSA Camp School to train.

He is the scoutmaster of Troop 12 in Parkersburg and is the district commissioner for the Kootaga District, Buckskin Council.

Volunteers throughout the year help John Baker, the camp ranger, keep Camp Kootaga in shape. Individuals and groups interested in volunteering can contact Baker or James Bennon at the Scout Office.

The 500-acre camp is 20 minutes from Parkersburg.

Plans are being made for the 100th anniversary of the camp in 2022.
