Angel Tree applications available

Applications are now being taken for the Angel Tree program through the Marietta Salvation Army.

Major Rosemarie Hughes said applications are by appointment only Tuesday through Friday by calling 740-373-4043.

“They have to be a Washington County resident and 16 and under is the qualification for the kids,” she said.

Parents must have a photo ID and children need a government issued ID such as a birth certificate or Social Security card.

“They also need proof they live in Washington County, income and expenses and a list of the children’s wants,” Hughes said.

Clothing and shoe sizes for each child are requested.

According to the Salvation Army, the Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Once a child or senior adult has been registered and accepted as an Angel, their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in the community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree.

Applications are being taken through Nov. 12.

Approximately 560 Washington County children were helped through Angel Tree last year. Gifts were distributed at the Washington County Fair board office just in time for Christmas.
