Providing hope through faith
VINCENT — A man who built a ministry helping people overcome addiction has established with his wife a faith-based residential treatment facility in Washington County for women.
The for-profit 16-bed Angel’s Harbor at 4945 State Route 339 in Vincent is the work of Tim and Abby Craft. Tim Craft established High on Hope Ministries in 2017 in Parkersburg.
Angel’s Harbor is named after the daughter of a sister, Brandi, Tim Craft said. Brandi died from an overdose in 2013.
“We did this facility to honor her,” Craft said.
Planning for Angel’s Harbor started more than two years ago, he said. Numerous regulations and permits had to be followed and obtained before the facility could become operational, Craft said.
“It’s been a journey. It really has,” he said.
Angel’s Harbor will hold a grand opening on Tuesday, May 31, and will begin accepting clients at that time. An open house was held Friday.
Clients will be referred to the 90-day substance abuse rehabilitation facility.
The 16-person 24-hour staff includes clinical directors, chemical dependency counseling assistants, case and outreach managers, Craft said. Most of the staff are recovering, too, he said.
“We were able to get jobs for people who have been down that same path,” Craft said.
After undergoing the 90-day detoxification program at Angel’s Harbor, the client then goes into transitional housing where there are programs to keep them from relapsing and they must participate in those programs, such as AA, counseling and peer support, he said.
“As they get readjusted to life,” Craft said.
The transitional period is up to nine months, he said. Two housing facilities have been obtained, Craft said.
Craft was addicted to opiates for 12 years which escalated into using heroin every day. The death of his sister in 2013 was painful and he, too, had an overdose in 2014.
Through the help of a friend and Jesus Christ, he entered a treatment program, DreamLife through the Eddie James Ministries.
Craft became director of the program before he created High On Hope Ministries. Angel’s Harbor is not a direct part of High on Hope Ministries, other than also being faith-based, he said.
