Ohio voters hit the polls for special primary election

Ohio held a special primary election on Tuesday, which was due to a legal disagreements over Ohio’s redistricting maps.

Voter maps submitted by the redistricting commission were rejected by the Ohio Supreme Court due to the maps favoring one political party over another which required a split primary with some races on the ballot in May and others on Tuesday.

The Ohio ballots on Tuesday were comprised of statewide legislative races, as well as local issues.

In Washington County, Tuesday’s ballot included: State Representative (94th district), State Representative (95th district), State Central Committee, man (30th district) and State Central Committee, woman (30th district).

According to the unofficial Aug. 2 Primary Election Results of Washington County, as of 10 p.m. Tuesday there was a total of 42,443 registered voters and a total of 2,075 (4.89 percent) ballots cast.

¯ In the State Representative race (94th district), Rhyan Goodman won the Democrat nomination in Washington County with 82 votes. Jay Edwards won the Republican nomination in Washington County with 362 votes.

¯ In the State Representative race (95th district), William D. Ryan won the Democrat nomination in Washington County with 482 votes. Don Jones won the Republican nomination in Washington County with 1,005 votes.

¯ In the State Central Committee, man (30th district) race, John Haseley won the Democrat nomination in Washington County with 500 votes. Jim Carnes won the Republican nomination for Washington County with 879 votes, while Shannon L. Walker received 551 votes.

¯ In the State Central Committee, woman (30th district) race, Karla D. Gregory-Martin won the Democrat nomination in Washington County with 550 votes. LeeAnn Johnson won the Republican nomination in Washington County with 804 votes, while Nichole Hunter received 646 votes.
