Wood BOE calls special meeting

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education met briefly Friday for a special meeting.

The meeting was to approve new hires and transfers before the new school year begins next week. State code dictates Friday was the last day to do so, ending the hiring season for Wood County schools.

“We have now hired 70 new professionals,” said Michael Erb, communications coordinator for Wood County Schools. “A majority of which are teachers that are new to Wood County Schools.”

The board also unanimously approved a couple of things on the consent agenda. It approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Boys & Girls Club to provide after school activities, including transportation from the selected schools to the club. It approved the Pre-K Community Partner Agreements for the 2022-2023 academic year for Joyful Sound, Precious Angels and A Little People Place.

The board also approved the Brown Asphalt Paving Co. Inc. change order for paving projects, the United Construction, Co. Inc. change order for Blennerhassett playground site work, and the Larry Lang Excavating change order for the Williamstown Middle/High School Bleacher Project.

The next Board of Education meeting will take place Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Wood County Schools Central Office at 1210 13th St, in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
