LITTLE HOCKING — Little Hocking Fire and Rescue will have an open house and job fair from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the fire house located at 99 Tower Road in Little Hocking.

“We’re going to have refreshments and tours of the fire station,” said Chief Mike Chevalier. “We’re also going to be accepting applications and having open interviews for basic EMTs, intermediate EMTs and paramedics for employment with Little Hocking EMS.”

Chevalier said the department is starting up its paid EMS services as they transition into a paid, public fire department. He said the department will soon have people at the station 24 hours a day to provide services to Belpre and Decatur townships and this was a good way to invite the public in.

“We’ll be able to show the fire station and facilities we’ve got for the paid people and just basically let the community come in and see what their tax levy money is going to be used for,” Chevalier said.

Chevalier said the department is looking to hire around 15-20 people. He said there would be eight positions that would be 36 hours a week with several fill-in positions available. He said there are 24-hour shifts and 12-hour shifts running from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

He said there were some requirements for those looking to apply.

“They have to have an Ohio certification EMT card, or an Ohio paramedic card, and they have to be 18 years of age or older,” Chevalier said. “Have a good driving record and clean background check, and that’s pretty much it.”

Chevalier said he was looking forward to meeting people in the community and showing them, and prospective employees, all the things Little Hocking Fire and Rescue has to offer.

“And try to get a good word out there for people that want to work EMS for Little Hocking Fire Department,” he said.

Applications can be requested by emailing littlehockingjobs@gmail.com. Chevalier said there was another open house and job fair taking place April 2 from 1-5 p.m. for those who are unable to attend March 31.
