¯ Marietta police arrested Justin Allen Hall, 40, of Belpre, Feb. 26 on a charge of rape of a child under 13. The crime originally was reported in late October 2022, having occurred several years earlier when the victim was 5-6 years old.

¯ Police spoke with Bridgeport Equipment on Acme Street Feb. 22 regarding a shoplifter who has been identified and who has been caught on video stealing, twice in six months. A summons for two counts of theft is being requested.

¯ Police Feb. 23 investigated a shoplifting at Walmart of $46 in merchandise. Sebastian Cariany, 18, was arrested for theft and released on a personal recognizance bond.

¯ Police were dispatched to St. Marys Cemetery Feb. 23 in reference to suspicious persons there after hours. Upon arrival, a vehicle coming from that area passed police. One police unit turned around on the vehicle and the other unit initiated a traffic stop on it. The driver, Shaun Griffin, 38, got out of the driver’s seat and fled on foot. A short pursuit on foot followed, and Griffin was apprehended. He was arrested for warrants out of Marietta Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and obstruction. He was taken to Washington County Jail.

¯ A school resource officer was informed by a parent Feb. 22 about a male juvenile taking his 9-year-old son’s necklace and not returning it. The juvenile was located and spoken to. A summons for the charge of theft will be sent to juvenile court.

¯ On Feb. 22 an off-duty officer recognized Richard D. Gill, 61, who was wanted on an active warrant out of Athens for failing to appear in court as well as being involved in a hit and run crash in Marietta on Feb. 2. The officer pulled over and arrested Gill in the 700 block of Washington Street. Gill also was cited for driving under suspension. He was taken to the Athens County line and turned over to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

¯ Police responded Feb. 24 to Walmart in reference to a female shoplifter. Upon arrival, police found that Cammille Lee Leach-Rodriguez, 40, failed to pay for 12 items worth $75 before passing the last point of sale. She was arrested and served a personal recognizance form and released on scene.

¯ Police responded to an emergency call at Marietta Municipal Court on Butler Street Feb. 24. Upon police arrival, the complainant said she was held against her will while in the probation department. Court officials provided documentation that she had violated a court order. Investigation is ongoing.

¯ Officers responded to Butler Street Feb. 24 regarding a possible overdose. No narcotics were observed and only prescribed drugs were seen. The victim recovered and was transported to a hospital for further care.

¯ Police responded to Walmart Feb. 24 in reference to a theft complaint. Police spoke to store personnel who said they had seen a suspect not scanning items totaling $78 and let the shoplifter leave prior to arrival. Police later made contact with Rachel D. Miller, 47, at Marietta Police Department and served her a Rule 4 Complaint for theft and had her sign a personal recognizance form.

¯ On Feb. 25 police attempted to stop a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 700 block of Greene Street. The vehicle traveled multiple blocks before pulling over in the 500 block of Phillips Street. Police approached the vehicle and asked the operator to exit in order to perform a pat-down search prior to field sobriety tests. After exiting, the operator later identified as William Lee Murphy, 28, began actively resisting. Murphy was arrested for his third lifetime OVI, driving under suspension for OVI and resisting arrest.

¯ Police responded to the Marietta Police Department Feb. 25 in reference to a possible juvenile on juvenile sex crime. The investigation is ongoing.

¯ Police responded to Taco Bell on Pike Street Feb. 26 in reference to a counterfeit bill that had been passed. Washington County Sheriff’s Office also had begun an investigation into a similar counterfeit bill passed in Reno. The suspects involved were located at a hotel. A detective obtained a search warrant for the hotel room, where a significant counterfeiting operation was found. The suspects were arrested and charged for counterfeiting and possession of criminal tools. Those arrested were Nathaniel Lee, 39, Nino A. Valdes, 31, and Lori B. Turner, 48, all of Columbus.

¯ Police were dispatched to the Marietta Police Department Feb. 27 in reference to a woman reporting a roommate moved out and took a 10-year-old Maltese dog that belonged to her. The case remains under investigation.

¯ On Feb. 27 police were dispatched to Walmart regarding a shoplifter. The female suspect had been observed placing $61 in merchandise into her purse. The suspect will be issued a court summons.
