Beverly/Waterford and surrounding communities join together for Hurricane Christmas Relief Drive

BEVERLY — Beverly/Waterford and surrounding communities join together for Hurricane Christmas Relief Drive at the American Legion in Beverly from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Food trucks will be available from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. as well as Big D Karaoke by Deidre from 1-4 p.m.

Contacts in North Carolina remind us that their Christmas Wish Lists looks a lot different than we can imagine. Some the same but the following detailed and specific list was provided from a team receiving and distributing donations in Asheville and surrounding areas:

¯ Prayers

¯ Bibles

¯ Books with hopeful and inspirational content for all ages

¯ Small Christmas trees

¯ Treat bags

¯ New card games

¯ New board games (kids/teens)

¯ New dolls

¯ New trucks/cars

¯ New baby toys

¯ New teen gifts

¯ No toys with batteries

¯ New word finds/puzzles and pens

¯ New coloring books (kids/adults) with crayons

¯ If sending pencils, include sharpener

Desperately needed items/gifts in Phase 2 Recovery specifically include:

¯ Prayers

¯ Bibles

¯ Children’s Tylenol/Ibuprofen

¯ Tarps

¯ Cots (children/adults)

¯ Flashlights with batteries

¯ Propane heaters

¯ 20 pound propane tanks

¯ Portable electric heaters

¯ Chainsaws and supplies

¯ Shovels

¯ Buckets

¯ Mops

¯ Brooms

¯ Tools (of all kinds – new/used)

¯ Adult depends (men/women – all sizes)

¯ Car seats (used is okay if in good shape and meet safety standards)

¯ Dog and cat food

¯ Food (with pull lids – proteins, canned meats, peanut butter, vegetables, fruits, bars)

¯ Clothes. Organizers are asking for new items as some used articles can’t be accepted and the gift of a new item provides an emotional boost. (pants/jeans/sweats – all sizes – youth and adult, coats, hoodies, jackets, gloves, hats, scarfs, coveralls, infants up to 6X, underwear, socks, work boots, muck boots)

¯ Cold weather sleeping bags

¯ Cards and letters with messages of hope and love (children to children, teens to teens, adults to adults, elderly to elderly)

The semi being loaded is being shipped to Asheville Buncombe County Community Ministries.
