A Lowell man was arrested recently on multiple charges related to a number of break-ins and thefts, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Eldon Jazdzewski, 38, 14990 State Route 60, Lowell, was arrested Tuesday on charges of breaking and entering (five counts, all fifth-degree felonies); theft (two counts, both fifth-degree felonies); theft of motor vehicle (two counts, both fourth-degree felonies); tampering with evidence (two counts, both third-degree felonies); possession of criminal tools (a fourth-degree felony); obstructing official business (a second-degree misdemeanor); kidnapping (a first-degree felony); failure to stop after an accident (a first-degree misdemeanor); felonious assault (a second-degree felony); and engaging in pattern of corrupt activity (a second-degree felony.)
A release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said a break-in was reported at a residence on Christy Road in Warren Township. The homeowner had located a male subject breaking into his building and approached him, noting he had loaded property from the building into the rear cab of a white Chevrolet truck.
The victim attempted to retrieve his property from the back seat of the truck, however when he reached into the cab, the suspect drove off in reverse, the release said.
The victim jumped into the truck, to avoid being ran over, asking the suspect to stop, however he refused to do so. The suspect accelerated and the victim believed that the truck was going to crash as the suspect drove through fields trying to flee the scene. At that time the victim jumped from the moving vehicle to escape.
A deputy passed the truck while responding to the call on State Route 676 near Klinger Road and began pursuing him. The deputy proceeded to the next intersection (Turkeyhen Road and State Route 676).
The truck had crashed into a field, and the driver fled the scene, the release said. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the driver.
“Located inside the truck was property found to belong to a subject in Barlow Township,” the release said.
The sheriff’s department received additional reports on Dec. 16 from the Christy Road area where a garage was broken into. Another report was made of a stolen Toyota truck from Warren Township, along State Route 676. A outbuilding was also broken into on Foxhaven Drive.
Through the sheriff’s department’s investigation Jazdzewski was identified as a possible suspect. During an interview with Jazdzewski on Dec. 17 he claimed he had dropped the truck off at a business in Barlow and was home by midnight. He further reported he later went to Akron the next day. Jazdzewski later met with his Parole Officer, stating he never went to Akron.
On Dec. 19, a subject called the Sheriff’s Office to report a vehicle was found hidden in the woods on Coal Run Hill Road in Waterford Township. The vehicle was found to be the stolen Toyota truck from State Route 676. The location of the recovered stolen Toyota is approximately 1.2 miles from Jazdzewski’s residence.
Through different means deputies used in their investigation, Jazdzewski’s location was found to be in the area of all the listed offenses and at the same approximate times of the offenses as well as not being where he claimed he was.
Jazdzewski was released from prison on Nov. 24 after serving approximately a decade for similar property crime offenses, the release said, adding he had previously been convicted of breaking and entering, safecracking, engaging in pattern of corrupt activity, theft, assault (felony), obstructing an officer and burglary.
Deputies arrested Jazdzewski when he appeared for a scheduled parole hearing earlier this week.
On Wednesday, Jazdzewski appeared in Marietta Municipal Court and remained incarcerated in the Washington County Jail on $500,000 bond and an additional $4,000 on the misdemeanor charges.
