MARIETTA — People came to the Washington County Fairgrounds throughout the weekend to find deals on children’s clothing and sales during the My Mommy Mart spring and summer consignment sale.
The bi-annual sale of gently used children’s items includes clothing from size newborn to 14, shoes, toys, books, baby items and sports equipment, among other items is a regular destination for many parents throughout the area looking to find things their children might need at more reasonable prices than they might find elsewhere.
More than 300 consignors, representing many families from around the area, provided around 3,500 items to be sold during the sale, including many items their kids have outgrown, but someone could get some more use of, said Molly Floding, owner and operator of My Mommy Mart.
“In the economy and the uncertainty we are in right now, Mommy Mart is a way for parents to really stretch their dollars out,” she said. “My Mommy Mart is a great way to keep money in the local community.
“That money goes might back into the local community. Many of these items are things that can still be used that still has plenty of life left in it.”

Each consignor decides on their own what they want to charge. Organizers recommend staying around 30 percent of the retail price.
As of Sunday afternoon, around 1,100 transactions were made which included multiple items for many customers, Floding said.
Lyndsey Pinkerton of Parkersburg saw the sale advertised on Facebook and decided to see what was available. She had never been to the event.
Her young daughter Sofia was excited and overwhelmed to see all the toys that were available.
“We are definitely finding some things,” she said. “It is pretty nice.”

Ashley Cutshaw of Parkersburg was trying to find baby clothes and toys at a good price. This is her third time at the sale.
“We also just wanted to get out of the house,” she said. “This is the best. You can’t go anywhere else, even (many thrift shops) are so expensive now. This is an awesome thing to go to every year.”
The public half-price sale will finish out the sale today from noon to 3 p.m., Floding said.
She estimates by the end of the sale today they will have had 1,500-2,000 people come through.
They had a ticketed pre-sale before the public sale over the weekend with a portion of the money raised going to local charities. One of the charities the sale likes to support is the GoPacks program in Marietta which helps send food home with kids whose families have food insecurity issues, Floding said.

People who came to the sale appreciated it and having the chance to shop for things cheaper than they might have found elsewhere.
Overall the sale was successful throughout the weekend.
“By Saturday night, we had sold around 70 percent of the items we have had brought in,” Floding said.
The Fall/Winter My Mommy Mart Sale will happen during the third week of October.
