Wood County BOE plans achievement recognitions

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education plans to recognize the athletic and academic achievements of area students Tuesday night in the Jefferson Elementary Center auditorium as they hold the second of their regular monthly meetings.

The board will recognize students who completed the i-Ready program, the state science fair winners, state wrestling winners from all three high schools and the state swimming winners.

The board will also hear a number of updates including a Caperton Center for Advanced Technology update from WVUP President Torie Jackson, a Martin Elementary access road and new Vienna elementary update from Pickering Associates President and CEO Ryan Taylor and a boundary attendance lines update for Hamilton and Jackson Middle Schools for the 2025-2026 school year by Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Leadership Justin Hartshorn.

The board will vote to accept the proposed boundary for Hamilton Middle School being south of Memorial Bridge Road to 19th Street, to Dudley Avenue, to Emerson Avenue. The proposed boundary for Jackson Middle School would be north of Memorial Bridge Road to 19th Street, to Dudley Avenue, to Emerson Avenue.

During the regular agenda, the board will also vote to accept the appointments of a number of assistant principals for schools throughout the district including Hamilton, Jackson and Williamstown middle schools.

The next meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the Jefferson Elementary Center auditorium. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
