PARKERSBURG — April is recognized as Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the experiences of individuals living with limb loss or limb differences.

This observance aims to educate the public, celebrate the resilience of those affected and advocate for equitable medical access and support.

Throughout April, various activities and initiatives are organized to engage the community and promote understanding. For instance, the Amputee Coalition encourages individuals to share their stories, participate in advocacy efforts and join events like “Show Your Mettle Day,” where people showcase their prosthetic devices or assistive tools.

The color orange is often associated with this awareness month, symbolizing energy and endurance. Supporters may wear orange ribbons or participate in “Wear Orange Wednesday” to show solidarity.

By participating, individuals and communities can contribute to a more inclusive society that recognizes and supports the diverse experiences of those with limb loss and limb differences, according to a release from the Amputee Center.
