Executive session: Search for new superintendent continues
Search for new superintendent continues
Scheduling conflicts at Marietta City Schools have changed the timeline for the second round of superintendent interviews.
As a result of the schedules for a few of the people involved in the search for the superintendent process, the interviews have moved from April 21-22 to April 28.
“We will have a much better idea of who we’re going to select, and we’re bringing in two candidates that we’ve narrowed it down to meet with,” said Marietta City Schools Board of Education President Cody Parman.
Following the first round of interviews with six candidates in the beginning of April, the board has continued to narrow down the search to the remaining two.
The upcoming April 28 interview will be conducted differently than the first round of interviews.
“We’re bringing them in to be interviewed by the administrators, teachers, students, and stakeholders and our board will observe those interviews,” said Parman.
After the observation, the board will then conduct the final interview before making a decision.
The first round of interviews was solely between the candidates and the board but now that they’ve narrowed the selection down to two individuals, the selection process will be more involved.
“The second round is a little more elaborate in the fact that we’re going to have students, teachers, administrators, and stakeholders all having the chance to ask the candidates more questions,” said Parman. “Questions about what their superintendent style would be and get to ask them about their leadership skills and resume.”
This gives staff and students the opportunity to engage with the remaining candidates and the board can observe how the candidates interact.
Following the second round of interviews and observation, and if everything goes as planned, the final decision will be made between the two candidates.
Parman said there will be no detailed information released about the candidates, out of respect for their privacy, until the final decision has been made.
