Joselyn Elizabeth Erb is an 18-year-old graduating from Warren High School.
As a long-time resident of Vincent, Erb has been going to Warren School District since she was in preschool.
Erb is heavily involved academically and spends a lot of her spare time attending school clubs and preparing to complete her associate’s degree when she goes to college. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the president of the Spanish Club. The Science Olympiad is another club she decided to join at the beginning of her senior year.
“I just started this year and I really wish I had started much sooner,” said Erb.
The Science Olympiad is a program through The Ohio State University where students in grades 6-12 attend interscholastic competitions. She laughed and stated “the Olympiad has really humbled me and I realized that there are much smarter people in other areas of Ohio.”

According to Erb, the Ohio Science Olympiad is competitive and they spend a lot of time preparing for the competitions. She said the team usually does pretty well and they make it to states.
“There’s a bunch of events and everyone gets to pick a few and you study anything about that topic and then you go to the competition,” she said. “There will be either written tests or some sort of lab and you get points based on how well you do.”
While talking about her experience in the National Honor Society, Erb mentioned that they do a lot of community work and raise money for a little boy in Guatemala.
As a graduating senior, Erb has been preparing for her college career by taking College Credit Plus courses through Washington State. She has aspirations to pursue a career in IT or cybersecurity and is attending college in the fall.
“I’m going to Washington State to finish my associate’s and then I’m not exactly sure where I’m going from there,” said Erb. “I’ll see if I need more but I’m going for my associate’s in cybersecurity.”

To prepare for her future, she enrolled in CCP hardware and software and CCP networking. She completed CCP operating systems and computing fundamentals during the fall of 2024.
“Last year, I honestly had no clue what I was going to do and then I just decided cybersecurity seemed okay because they make good money and I could do it from home,” she said.
Erb is also a member of Upward Bound which is a federally funded college program with the goal of preparing high school students for college.
She expressed that out of all of the clubs and organizations she’s a member of, Upward Bound is her favorite because it’s given her a lot of cool experiences.
“Kayaking across the Ohio River to Blennerhassett Island was crazy,” she said. “We went on a day trip to Pittsburgh once and there was an incline and it was terrifying but I can say that I did it.”

As a member of the program, Erb gets to tour and stay overnight at various colleges in Ohio during the summer as well as partake in fun activities.
Academics is a huge part of Erb’s life and she said it’s largely because she’s not involved in sports so she has the time to devote to these clubs.
She’s graduating summa cum laude and earned her Technology Honors Diploma.
“I received the Ultimate Warrior Award which is when all of the teachers vote for one student and the student with the most votes gets the award,” she said.
On May 4, she received a scholarship from the Marietta Community Foundation for $1,500 for the Conlan Opportunity Awards scholarship.

Erb also volunteers her time by helping out a kindergarten class at her school as well as at the children’s ministry on Sundays at the Barlow Vincent Church of Christ.
When Erb isn’t spending her time volunteering or attending class, she’s watching the TV show “Bluey.”
“I am a hard-core Bluey fan,” she said. “It’s really relatable and nostalgic to watch.”
Erb also loves to spend her time on needle-work and crafts. She said that she enjoys crafts because she gets lost in the art of it.
