Washington County Career Center announces Students of the Month for May

The Washington County Career Center honors its May students of the month, Rylee Johnson and Darrian Shumar.

Johnson is a Warren senior enrolled in the Patient Health Care program, and she is the daughter of Angel Johnson of Belpre.

At the Career Center, Johnson is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and vice president of her technical program. She has received awards for principal list, honor roll, and merit roll.

In the patient health care program, Johnson is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for health science & technology, medical terminology, patient centered care, patient centered care & diagnostics, and principles of allied health medicine.

She has earned industry-recognized credentials and/or certifications for automated external defibrillator (AED), cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, stop the bleed, the Ohio department of health – state tested nurse assistant (STNA), and phlebotomy. Patient Health Care instructor, Heather Klintworth, nominated Johnson for this honor and commented, “Rylee is a pleasure to have in class. I find her trustworthy, responsible, and honest. She takes pride in her work and always exhibits a great attitude and teamwork amongst her peers.”

(Photo provided) Darrian Shumar, one of Washington County Career Center Students of the Month, is a Warren senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and he is the son of George Shumar and Garnet Byrd of Cutler.

Upon graduation, Johnson plans to enter directly into the workforce using her STNA and phlebotomy credentials.

Shumar is a Warren senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and he is the son of George Shumar and Garnet Byrd of Cutler.

At the Career Center, Shumar is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization.

He has been on the Career Center’s honor roll for the past two years. Through BPA, he competed and qualified for state competition both years in fundamental desktop publishing and advanced desktop publishing consecutively.

Through his technical program, Shumar has or will earn college credit or industrial certifications for the Adobe Creative Cloud software in 2D animation, after effects, illustrator, indesign, photoshop, digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, live streaming and production, premier pro, and video production. He is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound. Additionally, he has earned credit for college algebra and U.S. history through Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) college credit plus courses. Mathematics instructor, Betsy Schramm, nominated Shumar for this honor and commented, “Darrian helped with my evaluation video for WSCO utilizing his video production skills he has learned in his technical program. He is a top student in my class and always kind to others.”

Upon graduating, Shumar plans to take courses through Zane State University for game design.
