LOGAN — The SE Ohio Foodbank will be taking part in #ChipInChipAway today.
This national day of giving asks donors to give any amount they can to “Chip In, Chip Away at Hunger” in their neighborhoods.
According to a release from the food bank, the need for food assistance is at a 10-year high.
While the need continues to grow, nonprofits like the SE Ohio Foodbank are being forced to do more with less, the release said. Policy changes are creating hardships for many people, and cuts to government funding have reduced resources for food assistance, it said.
While no one in Southeast Ohio should have to choose between buying food or paying for bills or medication, it’s a reality some face, the release said.

Funding is urgently needed to continue:
* Serving 60-plus food pantries, meal providers and emergency food programs across Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton and Washington counties.
* Increasing food access in rural communities through direct food distributions known as Mobile Markets and Mini Mobile Markets.
* Providing nutritious food to families who work but cannot afford the rising costs of groceries and do not qualify for other programs.
* Providing nutritious food to some of the community’s most vulnerable, including children, seniors, veterans, pregnant mothers, people with disabilities, and other chronic health conditions (such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease).
* Connecting community members to life-changing programming, workforce development and health care.
