Marietta Photographic Society

Marietta Photographic Society started out 2017 with the photography category of Signs. The January judging resulted in three winning photos. One print entitled Quit Now entered by Ken Wyant and two PDI entries, Suspicious Sign entered by Shirley Morrison and Just Waiting entered by Don Riddle. PDI entries are submitted unaltered from their original capture also referred as SOOC (straight out of camera).

The February meeting category was Still Life. A total of 18 photos were entered for judging with winners in the following categories: Print entitled In the Spirit entered by Ken Wyant and Solomon’s Valentine entered by Vicki Ford; cell phone entitled A Bouquet for you entered by Bill Jahn; manipulated entry by Steve Davis entitled Red, Red Wine; and PDI entry by Sarah Goocey entitled Crystal Horse.

The next meeting of the club will be 7 p.m. on April 11 at Gilman United Methodist Church. Anyone interested in learning photography or sharing their interests with others are welcome. The April meeting will have photos judged on subjects of Tools and also the subject of Rain. Photos may be submitted as prints, PDI, cell phone, or manipulated. There will also be a program presented on photoshop.

Bulls Eye 4-H

The Bulls Eye 4-H Club met on March 26 at 3 p.m. at Hervida 4-H Club craft hall. Margaret Anderson and Brian Baker lead the American pledge and Jacob Burke the 4-H pledge. The officers for this session is Ahton Binger: President, Wyatt Heiss: Vice-President, Liam Ritter: secretary, Mrs. Burchett: treasure, and News Reporter: Josie Burke. We discussed what our community service project will be giving grass seed to the archery range and gravel to camp Hervida. We also discussed that officer training will be April 3 at the Washington County Career Center at 6:30 p.m. The people who will be leading the American pledge is Cam Schot and Allison Huck the 4-H pledge. We will meet again on April 2 at 3 p.m. at Hervida 4-H club craft hall.

Bulls Eye 4-H

The Bulls Eye 4-H Club met on April 2. We had Cameron Schott lead the american pledge and Allison Huck leading the 4-H pledge. Leim Reitter took attendance and everyone responded by saying there favorite subject in school. Then Morgan Burchett took her treasurers report. Then we were all told that all the candy bar money needed to be turned in today. We then decided how much we wouls spend on our community service project we will be spending $700. Our Applebee Pancake Breakfast will be this Sunday on April 8. It will be from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. Bill and the Everson family helped clean up the hall after meeting. The meeting ended at 3:30 p.m.

Washington County Republican Women

The Washington County Republican Women’s Club met March 13 at the First Baptist Church in Marietta at noon for our monthly meeting. There were 25 in attendance who enjoyed food and fellowship, thanks to VP Sharon Adams.

President Judy Drake led us in the Lord’s Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary and Treasurer reports were distributed and all in attendance accepted them as presented.

Old Business: By-Laws to be reviewed by Lee Ann Johnson and Tammy Bates; Fundraiser for our candidates: A cookbook of favorite recipes is being assembled by Washington County Republican Executive Committee, and will be available for $10 once they are printed. Please share 3-5 of your favorites with Lisa Rankin, Leslie Pittenger, or Leslie Haas by April 3.

New Business: Four Washington County Republican Women’s Club members attended “Right to Speak” March 8 in Columbus. Republican Woman across the Country will be sending a postcard in support of President Trump on March 15.

Our speaker was Janet Kimes of the Women’s Care Center. This is a Christian ministry that assists women with healthy life choices and a pro-life medical clinic, complete with ultrasound and medical staff. The Center shares the Gospel with many of the women that come through their door. They build relationships, help with finances, other children, school, etc. for those looking for support. There is a patient advocate to help them with options on parenting, adoption and risks and procedures involved in abortion from an educational piece. They never refer for abortion as they are a ministry, not political, and they work with Christian adoption centers. They are governed by a board, have several volunteers and seven paid staff members. They have a sexual abstinence program in Wood and Wirt County schools and offer peer support and STD testing. Their work is both a challenge and a blessing!! They are always in need of donations of baby items and monetary gifts. They serve the

Rep. Andy Thompson spoke on the governor’s upcoming budget and other candidates were on hand for any questions.

Country Kids 4-H

Country Kids 4-H met on April 10 at Highland Ridge Community Church.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by Darien Barth. Dylan Barth lead the American pledge and Skyler Secrest lead the 4-H pledge. The secretary’s report was read by Kassidie Barth. Lakyn Secrest gave the treasurer’s report. Alex Longfellow gave a health tip and Dylan Barth gave an energy tip.

The club discussed quality assurance May 15 at the Washington County Career Center. Members A-H will give demonstrations on their projects at the next meeting. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m.

Once the meeting was adjourned, club members donated items and put together twenty Easter baskets. Each member took two baskets to deliver to the elderly or a special friend.

Guys & Dolls OCCL

The Guys & Dolls OCCL held its March 27 meeting at the home of Katy Rauch. Linda Schaad, the co-hostess, served a delicious blueberry dessert. The meeting was started with a prayer read by Katy Rauch. The 2017 Spring Conference update was given with several bringing breakfast breads for the hospitality table. Katy is to finish the “Summer Fun” cooler for the raffle. We are to be at the Burr Oak Lodge by 8 to 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. The OCCL Chit Chat was read. The Stanley orders were turned in along with a donation by everyone for the food pantry. The election of officers was held. Next meeting will be held on April 24 at the home of Rita Offenberger with Marilyn Young serving as co-hostess.
