MOV’n Dragons pasta dinner benefit March 16

The Mid-Ohio Valley’s Dragon Boat team, the MOV’n Dragons, will hold their eighth annual pasta dinner and silent auction on March 16 from 5-7:30 p.m. at a new location- The First Congregational Church at 318 Front St. in Marietta.

The MOV’n Dragons is a group of cancer survivors (or as they prefer to be called, THRIVERS) and supporters who have come together for fitness, friendship and fun. They have participated in a number of community activities including Rails, Trails and Ales, Riverfront Roar, The River Raft Race, The Betsy Mills Club Red Tent Winter Retreat, The Shamrock Classic and the Washington County Relay for Life. They have also had the opportunity to travel to other cities for dragon boat festivals, where they competed in races with other teams from around the country. The team uses both their 20-person boat and their 10-person boat for more strenuous practices- to train for races, or more casual practices for those who want a more leisurely workout.

Tickets for the event are $8 or $10 at the door, and $4 for children age five and under. They can be purchased in advance from a member.

There will be both meat sauce and vegetarian sauce available, as well as salad, bread, beverages and a variety of desserts. The sauces and desserts are homemade. Dinners will also be available to go. There will be a silent auction, including art work, hand crafted jewelry and much more.

A portion of the proceeds from this year will benefit the team’s Thriver Program. It was established six years ago with the purpose of offering funds to cancer thrivers who want to get back to their normal lives after treatment. The program helps cover the cost of fitness classes and other wellness activities for community members who have experienced cancer. In the last six years, the fund has helped over 50 people feel better about themselves and their level of fitness.

It is rewarding for the team to now be able to give back to the community that has so wonderfully supported them. If you’re looking for a great meal and want to contribute to a wonderful cause, you can do both at the MOV’n Dragons pasta dinner.
