CVB participates in Ohio Tourism Legislative Day
COLUMBUS–Deana Clark of the Marietta-Washington County CVB and a member of the Ohio Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, joined colleagues from across the state May 7 for the 2019 Ohio Tourism Legislative Day.
That day, which was selected during National Travel and Tourism Week, was designed to provide an opportunity for participants to meet with their individual elected representatives and talk tourism. It was a great time to discuss tourism issues. Along with giving updates on events happening locally, participants also asked legislators to support a funding increase for TourismOhio. The day was a collaboration of OACVB, the Ohio Travel Association and the Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association.
The groups also co-hosted an Ohio Tourism Works Legislative Reception for legislators and participants. This was an excellent opportunity for tourism leaders to meet additional elected officials and talk about the importance of tourism in our state.
Clark reported that she was able to connect with legislators and share with them the importance of supporting travel and future tourist attractions in Washington County specifically.
“Marietta is the first settlement in the northwest territory and the first city in Ohio. We have quite a story to tell of our significance to the country’s history and we also have a lovely, vibrant community filled with wonderful tourist attractions for all ages. Our CVB welcomes all to come and experience our warmth and hospitality throughout Washington County,” says Clark.
On May 8, 100 visitor bureaus, tourist destinations and attractions from across the state descended on the Statehouse lawn to celebrate Ohio Tourism Day. This was a special day to celebrate Ohio’s $46 billion tourism industry and to showcase a sampling of what is available across our great state. Visitors were able to plan their Ohio vacations while visiting the various vendor booths.
OACVB is statewide organization serving CVBs throughout Ohio helping them to maximize the economic impact of tourism via effective communication, cooperative marketing, industry education, legislative awareness, issue management, trend identification and professional development.
