Fort Frye FFA competes in multiple fall contests

This Fall the Fort Frye FFA has been busy competing in Career Development Events. These contests are an integral part of Agricultural Education and challenge students to apply classroom contest in a real-life setting while exploring potential careers and building skills.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, four members traveled to Symmes Valley High School to compete in the District Job Interview Contest. For this event, students must have completed a resume and cover letter ahead of time. At the contest, they must fill out a job application, interview for a job and write a follow-up letter. This was the first time the chapter competed in the contest! Representing Fort Frye in the freshmen division was Lane Johns who placed 8th, in the sophomore Division Tayor Haines placed 12th, in the Junior division Megan Becker placed 7th, and in the Senior Division Collin Bauerbach placed 10th. Great job!

In addition to Job Interview, several members competed in the Food Science contest. In this contest, students must evaluate the safety procedures for food processing and preparation, correctly identify aromas and the difference in product taste, solve math problems related to production and market, and develop a new food product based on consumer needs, in addition to taking a written test! At the District contest members earned a first place finish to qualify to the state contest on Dec. 7. Competing members included: Maddie Webb, Collin Bauerbach, Payton Brooker, Megan Becker, Logan Wagner, Jack Zalmanek and Chris Cain. At the state contest the members earned an 18th place finish. Congrats on a great year!

Students also competed in the Novice Parliamentary Procedure contest this fall for the first time in the school’s history, and represented Fort Frye with any Parliamentary Procedure team since 2012. This team of eighth and ninth graders were responsible for learning and demonstrating 11 parliamentary procedure abilities based on Robert’s Rules of Order, debating motions, and memorizing and performing Official FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies all while conducting a 15 minute business meeting! Team members included: Bryce Moncrief, Carter Brooker, Dash Barnes, Trinidy Kelby, MaKenna Long, Olivia Allevato, Ryan Duskey and James Shuster.

At a very competitive Sub-District contest the team placed 4th. We are proud of our members who are involved in Career Development Events and are looking forward to spring contests.
