Trail Blazers News Report

The Trail Blazers 4-H Club had a meeting on Feb. 20, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at the Barlow Fairgrounds. There were 22 members and 19 guests present.

There was no old business.

New business – 4-H Week is March 8-14. Window Display Committee is Tess Haffner, Zoey Carson, and Hannah Myers. The poster is to be done by Emily Hoffman and Cory Hoffman. The theme is catch your 2020 vision in 4-H. Poster due at Extension office on 3-2-20. Window at Seaman’s on March 7, 2020.

Went over different officers positions such as president, vice president, treasure, and etc. for what they do for each position.

Washington County Fair Board spaghetti dinner and gun raffle is on Feb. 29, 2020. Set-up starts at 4 p.m., Trail Blazers are asked to work.

Tack Auction is on March 7 with Lazy S Tack. Auctioneer Tonya Dodd. Trail Blazers are to donate 12 pack of pop each member or a case of water. Donations for food, the committee will let each family know what to donate.

Handed out candy bars to start selling, money due to advisor by March 27.

Horse Committee meeting March 2 at 6:30 p.m. at extension officer.

4-H open house is at Jr. Fair building March 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. Trail Blazers will setup an exhibit.

Quality Assurance dates are as follows:

Waterford High School March 17, 7 -9 p.m. in the gym.

Frontier High School April 6 in the cafeteria.

Warren High School April 20 in cafeteria.

Washington County Career Center on May 19.

Elections for new officers will be at the next meeting. Officer training March 31 at Washington County Career Center at 7 p.m.

Enrollment forms due at Extension Office by April 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Endowment dinner and auction April 4 Trail Blazers are ask to bring a camping item to next meeting for the basket donation. Also asking for volunteers to work.

Speaker: West Virginia Fighting Arts Association (River Hill Karate Class) from Washington, W.Va., 304-991-3190. Ask for Steve if you want any information on the classes. The Trail Blazers want to thank them for coming and demonstrating karate and helping the members learn some of the karate moves. Thanks again.

Next meeting is March 19, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at the Barlow Fairgrounds. Emily and Cory Hoffman have snacks.

Local youth attend Ohio Fairs


Local youth recently attended the Ohio Junior Fair Conference held in conjunction with the Annual Ohio Fair Managers Convention in Columbus. Washington County youth represented the Barlow and Washington County Junior Fairboards. The teens attended a variety of workshops and sessions to build their leadership skills and provide skills to assist them in conducting the junior fair events, livestock shows and activities at the Barlow and Washington County Fairs.
