Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club

Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club holds two hands-on shooting sports sessions during the 4-H year (October-September) at Hervida 4-H Camp. The 2019 fall session ended Nov. 22. Officers for the session were President Josie Burke, Vice President Katie Schaad, Secretary Cody Schaad, Treasurer Travis Morris and News Reporter Taylor Starkey. The 2020 Winter Session was to begin March 15. Due to coronavirus health concerns it was cancelled.

A Zoom virtual meeting was held April 5 with all the officers returning. Josie Burke called the meeting to order. Katie Schaad led the American pledge. Cody Schaad led the 4-H pledge and took a participant count. Nine members and five adults were in attendance.

Travis Morris gave a treasurer’s report with available funds being $1,470.43. Money is due from six of ten families participating in the county’s candy bar fund raiser. Proceeds are earmarked for the seller’s 4-H camp registration fee.

Taylor Starkey read a thank note from the Hervida 4-H Camp Board regarding the $500 donation the Club gave them last November for cabin improvements.

Two members, one parent and three instructors hosted a table display at the county’s 4-H Open House on March 12. Ten families recorded their interest to be on the Club’s mailing list. Members attending the Open House told about the event.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Friends of NRA Banquet scheduled for March 14 was cancelled due to the health crisis. Club officers and instructors had committed to help at the event.

The Club’s 2020 NRA Foundation grant was awarded $14,322! This is for safety items, ammunition, targets, archery gear, 3D targets, air pistols, county trip awards, and miscellaneous supplies. Since 2009, the 4-H shooting sports program has received over $147,000 from the NRA Foundation. Thank you to everyone for supporting the events of the Mid-Ohio Friends of NRA Committee that makes these grants possible.

The Club’s pancake breakfast fund raiser at Applebee’s on April 25 was cancelled due to the health crisis.

The Club was informed that the Washington County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is asking for personal protection equipment donations to support first responders and critical operations. Due to the health crisis, Bull’s-Eye won’t be using the usual amount of eye protection which was received from the NRA Foundation grant. The Foundation’s grant manager gave approval that it was acceptable to donate them to the EOC. The Club unanimously passed a motion to donate extra eye protection to the EOC as a service to the community.

4-H Club Officer Training will be done by Zoom meetings from April 13-16, 7 p.m. Anyone can attend, not just current officers. Participation in these trainings can be included on the yearly 4-H Award Application. The County 4 H Blog has more information at u.osu.edu/washington4h.

All were asked to be safe, take all precautions, as the Club looks forward to shooting at the Fall Session from Oct. 4 to Nov. 22. In September, information about the session will be posted to the Club’s Facebook page, Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club.
