Garden Club gets together at Howes Grove Park
The Muskingum Garden Club of Washington County, due to the pandemic, met at Howes Grove Park in Belpre. Nadine Kasick was the hostess. After a moment of silence that was observed to honor JoAnn Naeser, a long-standing member of Muskingum Garden Club. (We already miss her refined demeanor). The attendees enjoyed a bag lunch.
President LaTrelle Ellis called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. The roll call was answered with favorite perennial such as phlox, snow flowers, roses, columbines, irises, lilies, clematis, etc. Secretary’s Report was read by Val Hoover; it was approved as read. Nadine Kasick gave the Treasurer’s Report; it was approved as presented.
LaTrelle Ellis announced that one of our new members, Cassie Coss, gave birth to a baby girl May 20 (a future Garden Club member, we hope). She reported that one of our members, Barbra Garveric, had a successful knee surgery last week. We miss her. On a sad note, LaTrelle Ellis told us of Ruth Stewart’s beloved kitty, Sweetys, passing away. The OAGC Board affirmed a new club “Blooms and Beyond” in Region 2 June 11. Annual meeting was held via Zoom. HB 59 was passed designating April as Ohio Native Plant Month.
Thoughts of inspiration were given by Judy VanDyk: “Ships don’t sink because of water around them; ships sink because of water that gets into them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside you and weigh you down.”
Due to the absence of Pam Williams, Garden Hints were given by other members. Now is the time to watch the progress of our plants and enjoy our flowers.
The next monthly meeting is TBA. Barbra Gaverick will be hostess, program: potpourri.
Meeting was adjourned at 3 p.m.
Program: Bob’s Greenhouse in Belpre.
Those in attendance were: LaTrelle Ellis, her granddaughter Izzy (another prospective Garden Club member), Nadine Kasick, Debbie Naeser, Judy VanDyk, Mira VanDyk (a guest), Ruth Heidone (a guest), and Val Hoover.
