Community Action to host summer food service program

Washington Morgan Community Action announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under or persons over 18 who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be medically or physically disabled.

Due to COVID- 19, this year the summer meals will be grab and go each day. Children will be able to pick up meals daily at different locations in Washington County. Families will need to make a reservation for lunch each day by calling the central kitchen at 740-373-3455 and indicate which site they will be picking up a meal. Reservations should be made the day before or before 8 am on the day the children would like to pick up a meal.

For a growing number of children, school lunch and breakfast have become principal meals of the day. During the summer months, these meals are not available through the school. Studies show that children who do not receive proper nutrition over summer months begin school six months behind their peers.

The summer nutrition program is an important component of school readiness.

Free, hot meals will be available for pick up Monday through Friday at the following sites:
