Marietta Civitan Club awards 3 scholarships
The Marietta Civitan Club recently awarded $1000 scholarships to three 2021 Washington County graduating seniors to help them continue their educations. With these awards, the Club continues a scholarship program that has benefited students since 1969.
Seniors from all six Washington County high schools were eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Each applicant was required to complete an application and submit an essay and references. Finalists were then interviewed by the scholarship committee. Recipients were chosen based on a number of criteria, including school and community activities, scholarship and need. The following are the 2021 recipients.
Gretchen Lankford, a graduate of Marietta High School, was awarded the Ken Coffman Memorial Scholarship. Gretchen is the daughter of Pamela and Eric Lankford and will use the scholarship to further her studies at Xavier University.
Karlee Duffey, daughter of James and Kerensa Duffey, received the Art Jones Memorial Scholarship. A graduate of Warren High School, Karlee will be attending Ohio State University in the fall.
Emma Matheny, a Belpre High School graduate, is the recipient of the Charlie Thrash Memorial Scholarship. Emma is the daughter of Mike and Ashley Matheny and will be going to Ohio University.
