• On June 3, an officer responded to First Settlement Orthopedics, 611 Second St., for a report of criminal damaging. A window had been shattered and a drop box ripped from the wall. The investigation is ongoing.

• Peoples Bank, 332 Second St., reported June 3 that a customer’s checks had been stolen and cashed.

• Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Putnam Street June 3 in reference to a man causing a disturbance with an Ohio Valley Cab Company driver. Uriah Hill, of 702 Eighth St., had gotten a ride to Belpre and back to Marietta but refused to pay the fare. He was arrested for theft and resisting arrest.

• An officer was dispatched to Marietta Memorial Hospital on June 3 in reference to the violation of a protection order. A warrant will be placed for Bryan Eddy for the violation.

• Paula A. Warne, of 105 Gilman St., reported June 4 that she had a check stolen and cashed for $100.

• Shelly L. Lahai, of 403 Lord St., reported June 4 that an acquaintance stole her wallet from inside her vehicle while at the Frontier Shopping Center.

•Marietta City employees received a report June 4 that a male, possibly a juvenile, was in the women’s restroom at the armory and was looking at women in the stalls. He was wearing a black and red striped tank top, dark sweatpants with a white stripe and black tennis shoes with a white logo. He had blonde highlights and short hair and was riding a BMX bike.

• During a patrol in the 200 block of Fearing Street on June 5, an officer found Christopher Streight, of 120 Ward St., in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on a probation violation.

• On June 5, an officer was dispatched to an accident involving a vehicle and pedestrian. It was learned that Josey Barton was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk and a van exiting a Third Street lot struck her. It was determined her bicycle was stolen. She was transported to the hospital and advised she would receive a summons for receiving stolen property.

• On June 6, officers were dispatched to 330 Fourth St., Apt. D in reference to Dennis Oakley, of 110 Browns Alley, Apt. 1, being intoxicated and causing a disturbance. This was the second call within an hour and Oakley had already been given a cease and desist warning. Upon arrival, he could be heard in the backyard screaming obscenities. He was asked multiple times to put his cigarette out and stand up but refused. He was arrested for disorderly conduct cease and desist and resisting arrest.

• Officers were dispatched to 708 Front St., Apt. 22 on June 6 in reference to John Daniels being disorderly and purposefully setting his apartment on fire. After being given two cease and desist orders he was taken into custody and charged with cease and desist.

• During a traffic stop June 6 in the 700 block of Glendale Road, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found. Misty Caldwell, of 3645 Blue Knob Road, and Michael Porter, of 483 Echo Valley Road, were charged with drug abuse and possesion of drug paraphernalia. Caldwell was also charged with tampering with evidence.

• Bridgeport Equipment, 15 Acme St., reported a theft on June 7. A woman left the store with a shotgun and two magazines for other firearms. This case remains under investigation.

• Michael A. Buck, of 509 Ferguson St., reported June 7 that his son had run away while staying at his grandmother’s house at 418 Front St.

• Officers responded to 840 Pike St. for a welfare check of a 50-year-old woman on Sunday. She was found deceased. No foul play is suspected but an autopsy was requested.

• Jay A. Powers, of 622 Allen St., reported Tuesday that a chainsaw had been stolen from his backyard.

• Charlotte M. Torpy, of 325 Franklin St., reported Tuesday that she ordered a cell phone online and when it was taken to be activated it was flagged for viruses and couldn’t be used. When she attempted to return the phone, the address provided was not valid.

• On Tuesday, an officer met with two victims of domestic violence at the police station, one of whom is pregnant. After an investigation, James Freddrick O’Brien II, of 148 Warner St., was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic violence. He also had a warrant for failure to appear.

Reports/Washington County

• A deputy was dispatched to 12411 County Road Nine, Newport, on Wednesday for an assault complaint. Melissa Lanis said her boyfriend Steven Smith struck her hand with an ax handle. She said Smith had a handgun and he fired approximately two shots in her direction. Landis stated she then left their residence after this and went to a friend’s residence. Smith said he was packing to leave when Landis threw two knives at him while he was walking away from the house. Smith said she then followed him toward a building carrying a wooden stick, and broke out the driver’s side rear tail light on his truck. Smith advised Landis then produced a 40 cal. Glock handgun and pointed it at him, at which time Smith took a 2–4 piece of wood and hit Landis’ right hand to try and knock the gun from her hands. Landis then got in her truck and began to drive out of the driveway, and was observed by Smith pointing the handgun out the driver’s side window and firing three shots at him. As a result of the evidence collected and the statements made by all parties involved, Melissa Jo Landis, 41, of 12411 CR 9, Newport, was placed under arrest for attempted murder, and transported to the Washington County Jail.

• A deputy responded to 551 Broad St., Macksburg, on Wednesday to meet with Phyllis Carpenter. Carpenter stated that the night before James Westfall, who lives at the residence, assaulted her. Carpenter stated that Westfall “beat” her. The deputy spoke with Westfall and he admitted to hitting Carpenter. James Burton Westfall, 80, of 551 Broad St., Macksburg, was arrested for domestic violence, a misdemeanor.

• Leann Schaffer, of 5004 Stevens St., Newton Falls, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

• David Eric West, of 35 Aqua Cir, Parkersburg, failure to appear on a possession of drugs charge.

• Stephen A Andrews, of 1209 Walnut Hill Road, St. Marys, W.Va., failure to appear on a trafficking in drugs charge.

• Jessie L. Barnett, of 1000 W. Broadway, Wellston, theft.

• Matthew Foraker, of 1003 Campus Drive, Belpre, probation violation on a theft charge.

• Lionel Justin Gore, of 130 Cemetery Road, New Matamoras, failure to appear on failure to comply with order or signal of officer and driving under suspension, two warrants.

• Sarah S Morris, of 9 Spring Ave., Vincent, violation of a temporary protection order.

• Thomas Dean Joy, of 1195 East Branch Road, Lowell, failure to appear on a possessing drug abuse instruments.

• Marcus Maurice Kimbrough, of 103 Woodcrest Lane, Marietta, failure to appear on a driving under FRA suspension.

Arrests/Washington County

The following people were recently processed into the Washington County:

• Nicholas Ryan Easton, 29, of 2605 Core Road, Parkersburg, was arrested for two counts of theft and aggravated possession of drugs, felonies, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

• Jerome Lee Blackwell, 40, of 4809 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under disability, both felonies.

• Darren Allen Petty, 31, of 211 Pickering St., Parkersburg, was arrested for probation violation, a felony.

• David Andreas Decker, 25, of 629 Second St., Marietta, was arrested for probation violation, a misdemeanor.

• James Burton Westfall, 80, of 551 Broad St., Macksburg, was arrested for domestic violence, a misdemeanor.

• Melissa Jo Landis, 41, of 12411 County Road 9, Newport, was arrested for attempted murder, a felony.

• Aaron Ryan Robinson, 24, of 38741 State Route 7, Newport, was arrested for probation violation, contempt of court, domestic violence, all felonies.

• Jennifer Victoria Sample, 25, of 506 Caroline Ave., Williamstown, was arrested for possessing drug abuse instruments, a misdemeanor.

• Brett Sumner Edwards, 29, of 509 Ferguson St., Marietta, was arrested for tampering with evidence, a felony, and possessing drug abuse instruments and probation violation, both misdemeanors.

• Mark Evan Macaulay, 37, of 2414 Norris Ave., Belpre, was arrested for probation violation, a misdemeanor.
