Blaine J. Arnold

Blaine Joseph Arnold, 66, of Troutville, VA, (Roanoke) formerly of Waterford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Blaine was born July 12, 1952 to Gertrude and the late Howard Arnold of Waterford, OH. He was a 1970 graduate of Waterford High School and continued his education at Washington State Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving from 1972 to 1976. He was a helicopter mechanic while in Vietnam. He loved all the traveling he experienced while in the Marines.

He was employed by Dravo & Connex for many years and was Maintenance Supervisor for each company. When Connex relocated to Troutville, he moved his family there. Blaine later worked for O’Neal Steel in Daleville, VA where he was Maintenance Supervisor. He was very proud that he had helped design & build the Connex Pipe System facility in Troutville.

Blaine was a hard worker and mechanically gifted. He was passionate about restoring old equipment, especially farm equipment. He loved farming and doing physical labor outside. Even though he lived in Virginia, he remained very fond of the Watertown/Waterford, OH area. He loved his granddaughters, Hope and Breanna. His great-grandchildren, John, Dawson, and Eleanor were some of his favorite company.

On Dec. 7, 1995 he married Janie Welch Tanner and is survived by her and his two step-daughters Shawna Burkhart (Tony) of Troutville and Tonya Wynn of Coolville,OH, his mother of Waterford, six sisters: Patricia Reed (Ted) Marietta, Kathy Leiden (Tom) of Hunting Valley,OH, Evelyn Waller (Steve)of Waterford, Joan Aceto (Mike) Peoria, AZ, Marcia Pawloski (Glen) Marietta, Brenda Work (Brian) Waterford. Two brothers: Dean Arnold, Waterford, and Glen Arnold (Patricia) Ottawa, OH. There are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father (1987) and three brothers: Donald Arnold (1951), Neal Arnold (1999) & Marvin Arnold (2016).

His family expresses a warm appreciation and gratitude to the Veteran’s Administration, Salem, VA. and step-daughter Shawna Burkhart along with her husband, Tony, for their help with his medical care.

In keeping with Blaine’s wishes he was cremated. A memorial service will he held at a later date.
