Elaine Thomas, 77, of Marietta, OH passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Elaine was born March 1, 1942 in Lowell, OH, the daughter of the late James Robert and Nellie Maude Lowe Jackson.

Elaine was a 1959 graduate of Salem Liberty High School. She was a cheerleader throughout her high school years. Elaine was a member of the Pioneer Square Dance Club and Charlie’s Angels Round Dance Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, camping and going to dinners with their Sam’s Club Camping friends. Elaine retired from Harts Family Center in 1999 as a department manager after 30 years of service.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 60 years John L. Thomas, whom she married March 21, 1959. They have 4 children, Debra (Ron) Curfman, of Williamstown, WV, John (Julie) Thomas, of Lower Salem, OH, Diane (Todd) Weber of Watson, MN and Darlene (Jeff) Swartz of Williamstown, WV. She has one surviving brother and sister-in-law Jim (Sandy) Jackson of Lowell, OH. She has 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Those left behind will cherish all the wonderful memories and stories she told about her life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Elaine had a great sense of humor, loved to make people laugh and was always quick witted with a smart comeback comment. She was loved so very much and will be missed greatly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her four sisters, Shirley Long, Patricia Long, Judith Radar, Linda Peters and her beloved cat “Puff.”

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Hendershot officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Elaine’s family will greet friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
