G. Elizabeth Buell
G. Elizabeth “Betty” Buell moved on from this to the next phase of life early on March 21, aged 88 years. She was born in Gandeeville, WV to Orland D. and Sylvia Jones Kee. She was a 1949 Graduate of Bartlett High School and later attended Marietta College.
She was employed by Allied Building Credits in Columbus, The Friendship (now Ewing) School, and as a secretary at Marietta College. In 1952 she married Arthur L. Buell, whom she had dated since they were both 15. Betty held down the fort while her husband finished college, then obtained his masters and doctorate degrees. For the next 50 years they lived in Marietta, Wilmington, St. Louis, and Jacksonville before returning to Marietta and the Glenwood Community. Betty was an avid volunteer at the Union Avenue Church in St. Louis where she helped start the Union Avenue Opera and was a member of the Arts Group. While raising two children who at times put her patience and good nature to the test, she found time to garden, refinish furniture, and encourage them in ballet and music. She was also a terrific grandmother and great-grandmother, maintaining a full cookie jar during visits. Her Thanksgiving dinners were legend.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Felicia Buell; son, Eric Lakin Buell (infancy); brothers Robert and Lakin Kee; sisters Maxine McAtee, Evelyn Kee (infancy), Helen Lampman, Mary Ann Wallace, and Nancy Perry.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Rosanne) Buell, of Marietta; Grandchildren Jenna (Kevin) Knatt of St. Louis, Derek (Brittany) of Los Angeles, and Aaron of Whitesboro, NY; great-grandchildren Kellen, Amelia and Miles Knatt; Theo and Hayden Buell; and her twin sister, E. Catherine Mead of Alabama.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Glenwood Community as soon as we are legally allowed to be within six feet of each other. If so moved, please make a contribution to an agency helping those most in need.
