William A. Reed Jr. and Karolyn B. (Wagner) Reed

William A. Reed Jr. and Karolyn B. (Wagner) Reed entered the presence of the Lord, Thursday, April 29, 2021 due to injuries sustained in a tragic accident.

William (Bill) was born on November 1, 1948 in New Kensington, PA to William Sr. and Charlotte Reed. He graduated from New Kensington High School, and then attended Cedarville College where he met his sweetheart. While in college, Bill joined the United States Air Force and received training in Electronics and Communications. He served his country for 20 years before retiring in 1989 at the rank of Master Sergeant. After he retired, Bill went back to school and earned a degree in Applied Business and Data Processing. He then went on to work for Radio Shack, serving as a manager for many years. He retired again in 2009.

Karolyn was born on January 6, 1949 in Marietta, Ohio to Charles and Bernice Wagner. She graduated from Marietta High

School, and then attended Cedarville College. For 20 years she traveled the world with her husband while they raised a family. Upon Bill’s retirement, Karolyn went back to school and completed her degree in Elementary Education. She had a love for learning, and later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Reading. She taught for over 20 years, and recently retired from Criss Elementary School in June, 2020.

Bill and Karolyn met while attending Cedarville College, and just recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. Bill always said he knew he wanted to marry Karolyn from the moment he first saw her. While their children were young, Bill and Karolyn were involved in Civil Air Patrol where Karolyn served as the Parkersburg Squadron Commander and Bill helped with Emergency Services and Communications.

Bill always had a keen interest in electronics and technology. Throughout his life he had the rare distinction of almost always knowing more about the latest gizmo or gadget than his children or grandchildren.

Karolyn had a passion for teaching and learning. She even had the joy of teaching some of her own children and grandchildren over the years.

After Bill retired, he rekindled his love for motorcycles and they shared that love with many of their family members. They were active members of the local Harley Owners Group. Bill and Karolyn have traveled up and down the east and west coasts, and everywhere in between, on their motorcycle. It did not matter what time of year it was, Bill believed all seasons were motorcycle season.

They attended Bethel Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV and had a strong faith rooted in Christ. As followers of Christ, they firmly believed that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Bill and Karolyn believed children were a blessing and a joy, and counted them as such. Family was very important to them. Whether it was a graduation, birthday party, wedding, or just a family gathering, they never hesitated to travel far and wide in order to be there. Their greatest joy was when all their children and grandchildren were gathered together with them.

Bill and Karolyn are survived by Bill’s father, William A. Reed, Sr; their children and their spouses: Ed and Jennifer Reed, Krystal and Kenneth Martin, Kymberli and Gregg Martin, Keryn and Dwayne Miller, Kandyss and Chris Bryant, and foster daughter Meri and Chris Sarbu; their siblings and their spouses: Karla and Bill Allen, Keral and Frank Fell, Chuck and Ellareain Wagner, Kathleen and Keith Alter, Fred and Patti Reed, Rebecca and Ken Montanari, Rachel and Michael English; their 26 grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

They were preceded in death by Karolyn’s parents, Charles and Bernice Wagner; Bill’s mother, Charlotte Reed; their daughter, Karla O’Maille, and their grandson Adam O’Maille.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH 45750 and again on Saturday, May 8th from 12 PM to 1 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, 15 Bethel Road, Parkersburg, WV 26101, where the funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Pastor Aaron Marvel officiating.
