Reverend Brady A. Seeley

“Grandpa, what do you do best?”

“I hope I help people.”

— March 18, 1992

Reverend Brady A. Seeley, Former Pastor of Gilman United Methodist Church of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on October 15, 2021, at the age of 89 in Delaware, Ohio.

Born in Macksburg, Ohio, on May 5, 1932, to Harold Ball and Anita Ball (Seeley), Brady graduated from Marietta High School where he found a passion in music as both a trombonist and singer. Shortly after, he married the love of his life, Betty Stalnaker, on September 2, 1951, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Highly personable and always curious, Brady explored various fields of work including bookkeeping, selling life insurance and working in a chemical plant.

He continued pursuing music throughout his time at Marietta College, where he graduated in 1961, and then found his true calling. In 1964, he graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree from Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, and would devote the remainder of his life to helping others and preaching the word of God.

Rev. Brady touched countless lives as he served many churches in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Florida and was a member of numerous community boards, clubs and organizations. He was a constant supportive presence in the lives of others — he performed weddings, celebrated the birth of children, provided comfort and healing during the loss of a loved one, and was quick to lend an ear to anyone who needed his help, encouragement or guidance.

A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Brady valued and cherished spending time with his family, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and trading collectibles.

He is very loved and his presence will be sorely missed.

Brady is survived by 2 children, Dwaine A. Seeley (son), Dawn K. Seeley (daughter in-law), Debra L. Comstock (daughter), Dennis Jay Comstock (son-in law); 4 grandchildren, Anthony Seeley, Jessica Seeley, Matt (Valerie) Holsinger, Janine (John) Sickmeyer; 8 great-grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Chloe, Weston, Eloise, Aldrin, Astrid, Orson; 2 brothers, Larry (Terry) Seeley of New Concord, Harold (Sandy) Sciance, Jr. of Florida; and multiple loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Betty on April 21, 2020; and two sons, Allen E. Seeley on July 26, 1986, and Dwight A. Seeley on July 16, 2016.

Rev. Brady will be honored in a Celebration of Life for family and close friends in the next few weeks and laid to rest at a later date in Marietta, Ohio.
