Mary Rita Barrett Oxender

Surrounded by loved ones, Mary Rita Barrett Oxender, age 86, left this earthly life on Monday, June 27, 2022. She was born in Marietta, Ohio on May 28th, 1936, to Clara Kestermier Barrett and Carroll Barrett.

Marita grew up on the farm in Vincent, Ohio and was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. She was a former home economist and later in life was a partner in a female run insurance company office. She was a volunteer brownie and 4H leader, PTA member, Garden Club member, and was a volunteer at her boys baseball games alongside her husband who often coached. Known as one of the best cooks and kindest people in the neighborhood, she was an involved member of St. Mary’s of the Snow Catholic Church in Mansfield, Ohio.

She enjoyed world travelling with her husband Gene to Canada, Aruba, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, Italy, Ireland, Budapest, and Japan. She was a frequent visitor to Marietta to see her granddaughter and often visited Cincinnati and Louisville to see her grandsons.

Marita Oxender was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eugene B. Oxender. She is survived by children Tim (Maria) of Loveland, Ohio, Tom (Terri) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Cindy of Marietta, Ohio and grandchildren Cecelia, Sam, Quinn, Jonathan and Nathan Oxender. She is also survived by her brother Charles Barrett and sister Suzanne Scheid Barrett in addition to sister-in-laws Jan and Mona Barrett and Patsy Schenk and numerous Barrett nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Otterbein Senior Living and Bella Hospice of the greater Loveland, Ohio area.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday July 1, 2022 at the Marion Avenue Chapel Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue, in Mansfield, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church 1630 Ashland Road Mansfield on Saturday July 2, 2022 at 10 am and burial will follow at Prince of Peace Cemetery.
