Celebrate America’s freedoms on July 4

We hope you take at least a few minutes this week to appreciate the meaning behind the Fourth of July holiday: Our independence.

In fact, the holiday often is called Independence Day and it’s something we all should celebrate every day. Communities around the area are definitely in the spirit.

Folks in Newport got an early start on local festivities with the annual Firemen’s Festival over the weekend.

More celebrations and fireworks coming up including the Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department’s Fourth of July event on Thursday.

In Beverly on the Fourth, the Lions Club is holding its 16th annual antique tractor and engine who behind Fort Frye High School. A flag raising is planned for noon with a tractor parade and tractor rodeo planned. The event runs into the evening when it will be time for fireworks.

And the Marietta Fourth of July tradition continues with the Washington County Fair Board’s annual Independence Day celebration. It runs all afternoon with food and family oriented activities. It concludes with the popular demolition derby capped by a fireworks display.

Again, we hope you take advantage of what the area has to offer for the holiday. It’s a special day for all Americans to celebrate our way of life and freedoms that so many have given so much to secure for this and future generations.

Have a happy Fourth of July!
