Make today celebration of gratitude

Mid-Ohio Valley residents have so very much for which to be thankful on this day. We may grumble, we may wish for more, but deep down we know just how richly we have been blessed.

Certainly all the food — and we know how many talented cooks there are in our midst –and family gatherings are over-the-top reminders of those everyday things for which we sometimes forget to be grateful. Take a moment today, folks, even between football games and turkey-induced naps, to think about those things; maybe even whisper a little “thank you.”

Even better, talk about it with those who are celebrating, too. Show the children among you how important it is not to take for granted the little things — we all have something for which to be grateful.

Talk to them today, too, about ideas for helping others this season (and all year long). Blessings are not a one-way street.

Enjoy the excess — the feast, the shopping, the family stories. It will be over faster than we know it. Let’s use it to set the tone for the rest of the holiday season and start off on a note of humble gratitude as we turn our eyes toward Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving, folks.
