Delivery options a silver lining – keep it up
When you want a night out or a break at lunchtime, there’s nothing like the experience and atmosphere you get being at a restaurant. But on many days of our busy lives, restaurant food being delivered right to our homes can be just as great, if not better.
Many restaurants both locally and across the country took up delivery (and often free delivery) as the COVID-19 pandemic worsened and shutdowns took effect. Some were already using Door Dash or delivering before the crisis, but for many others, it was their first foray into service right to your door.
We’d like to encourage local restaurant owners to keep up the practice, long after life returns to some semblance of normal and it’s not the only way to do business. For many people, the service has been one of the few silver linings to all the changes to our day-to-day routines.
Just like retail has had to embrace the internet to stay relevant, we think free or low-cost delivery is something consumers are going to expect in future years, even in small towns like ours. Even before the coronavirus, it was already taking hold in other businesses, like grocery stores. Folding it into the business model could very well benefit both restaurants and customers.
We hope that life does return to normal in most ways very soon, and that businesses rebound. But we also hope some of our businesses continue to offer the convenience of deliveries when it’s no longer the only way to do business.
