Have a little fun with food drive

While fall Saturdays are often reserved for settling in to the couch for a long day of college football, The Marietta Times and Marine Corps Veterans Association Mid-Ohio Valley Platoon hope you will spend a small portion of the day helping to feed those in need.

It won’t take much effort, we promise; and the food drive will be handled in a way that keeps everyone as safe as possible. It is somewhat the reverse of your normal food drive-thru. This time, you’ll be handing the food out your vehicle window for someone else to receive.

Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, in The Marietta Times parking lot, there will be a little bit of competitive spirit in the air, too, as multiple veterans organizations will be set up ready to collect your non-perishable items for the Gospel Mission Food Pantry in Marietta.

“We’ll definitely be there,” said Commander Aimee Meadows, of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 52. ” … It’s great to see friendly competition put to good use.”

Veterans groups from across Washington County will be there — not just to have a little fun and collect food to donate to a good cause, but also to remind folks of the many resources available to those who served their country.

We hope you will join us. Wear your mask, stay in your vehicle, have a little fun — and do a lot of good. Time it right, and you might not miss any football, either.

We’ll see you Saturday.
