Facility will be great for Little Hocking
Little Hocking area residents have a big opportunity brewing, as they await the demolition of the former Little Hocking Elementary School building, and the property’s eventual transfer into the hands of the Belpre Township trustees. According to trustee Asa Boring, that process should be completed by April. Once it is completed, the next step is input from the public as the trustees figure out how to create an envisioned sports and recreation complex on the property.
Boring says the trustees are hoping to keep the four ball fields, with the help of local leagues; and that some trailers that will be left on the property could become an area for community meetings. Even soccer fields have been discussed.
All those plans are just ideas for now as the trustees have wisely decided not to make any commitments until they know what the community wants from this facility.
“We want to get input from people in the area to see what they want in that park,” Boring said. “At this time, we’re going to call it a recreational sports facility and promote it as a sports complex.”
Local residents should keep any eye out for those public meetings to be scheduled this spring. Trustees can’t make good decisions for the community if the community does not speak on the matter. The potential is fantastic, so long as local residents guide trustees toward creating a facility that truly meets their needs.
