Reno resident won’t vote for drug treatment levy

I am writing in response to the news in the Friday, Feb. 10, paper that there will be a levy on the spring ballot for drug treatment and a drug court, and then in the Saturday, Feb. 11, paper that all of us law abiding, hardworking, tax paying citizens of Reno got stuck with the drug treatment center.

All of us very strongly disagreed at meetings that we did not want it in Reno and they snuck it in on us anyway. Maybe we should stand together and put a levy on the ballot to cover thefts in our area, especially with a veterinary office close by (they have drugs).

I am very tired of being “politically correct” because that just means we have handed over our freedom of speech on a silver platter. I will not be voting for your levy because I believe if an addict does not have to suffer consequences there is no incentive to quit.

I am not heartless, I know that the drug problem is way out of control and has gotten more so from eight years of President Obama’s open door policy, but if I commit a crime I would definitely suffer consequences because I wouldn’t have the convenient excuse that I was an addict.

This center will just be one more chunk of taxes on my ever shrinking paycheck, it puts thieves and criminals in my neighborhood, and the center makes all the money.

To all the deal makers behind this, I hope you feel good, because I don’t. The army reserve center that served the men and women who fought for this country will now serve those who don’t care about our country, steal from, and cause harm to it. It is a slap in their face.
