America must do better — and we must speak out

Writing this letter to the editor was difficult but necessary since I want to call attention to an evil growing in this great country known as the United States of America. The inhumane practice being carried out by our government cannot, and must not be overlooked or taken for a new norm. To say nothing is to give your approval to the evil being carried out daily. This is not the America that I know and love.

Most alarming is the immigration policy which has been the high point of evil carried out by our government. Children being ripped from the arms of their parents, and carted away to be placed in cages away from everyone they know. The United Nations is saying that it is illegal to separate children from their parents. Of course this has fallen upon deaf ears.

Mothers being told that their children are being taken away to have a bath, and never to see their children again since they have been arrested. (A page out of Hitler’s manual) Which part of this scenario is representative of our democracy? Which part of this scenario represents decent Christian values? Which part of this scenario represents our humanity? Which part of this scenario makes you made enough to speak out.

I know that I am having difficulty coming to terms with this thug-like behavior being carried out by our government. When I think about these innocent children, and what they are going through I can hardly bear it. I know that I am not alone in my feelings about this issue. The United States of America is better than what we are seeing in this time in history. Let us stop normalizing this behavior, and speak out.
