Sternwheel Festival sees another successful year

As the Director General of the 2019 Ohio River Sternwheel Festival, I am pleased to announce that our 44th was another success. Our festival does great things for the Marietta community by assisting to promote local tourism and preserving the river boat heritage of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

I would like to thank all involved in this process, and there are many! Much thanks to our Corporate Sponsors and those who donate privately. We are a non-profit organization and we continue to be able to offer this event free of charge to the public. Thank you to our vendors, including food concessions, crafts and business vendors. A big thank you to our Sternwheel Captain’s and the American Sternwheel Association for bringing your beautiful boats to our levee every year. Thank you to the people and businesses who graciously donate time and or equipment, and thank you to our committee, who work hard year-round. This festival is truly a community effort.

There are some people that I feel need special thanks and recognition. Prior to the festival this year, there was a potential security concern brought to our attention. Our local and State officials, on both sides of the river, worked together and directed our committee in enhancing safety efforts during the festival. As a result, we had a safe event. I would like to thank and acknowledge:

Marietta Police Department

Marietta Fire Department

Washington County Sheriff’s Office

Ohio Attorney General Bureau of Criminal Investigation

Williamstown Police Department

Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department

Wood County Emergency Management/911 Center

Wood County Sheriff’s Office

West Virginia Army National Guard 35 Civil Support Team

West Virginia Department of Natural Resources

As promised yearly, we had a wonderful, family-oriented festival. We are looking forward to, and already working on the 2020, 45th anniversary festival and we can continue to promise the same with some added surprises.

In closing, please save the date for our Ohio River Sternwheel Festival Ball held on February 8 at the Lafayette Hotel at 6 p.m.
