‘Nice’ would be a welcome contrast to Trump

In an opinion in the July 31 edition of The Marietta Times a letter writer claims that people wonder what has happened to our nation and why it is in such turmoil. My guess would be that very few individuals are perplexed by this question. In conclusion the letter states, “Some say they will vote for Biden because he is such a nice old man that will bring civility back to the White House. Don’t be fooled. When we have completely lost our freedom, Biden’s facade of grace and charm will not matter.”

Where in God’s name has this individual been hiding? We have totally lost our freedom under the Trump administration. Not to mention the fact that most Americans believe it would be a welcome change to have a NICE old man leading our country who can and will bring civility back to the White House and to this great nation.

Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country tries to undermine the United States Postal System for political gain. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country denies COVID-19 assistance to so-called Democratic cities. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country sends US armed troops into so-called Democratic cities to attack United States citizens. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country aligns himself with Russia’s Putin rather than back the United States Intelligence community. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country wants to deport Muslims while they serve our country in the United States Armed Forces. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country lies to the American people every single day, multiple times a day. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country denies that the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t real and will go away tomorrow. But, as I write this on Aug.1, 2020, there are 18 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our country and nearly 700,000 deaths of our friends, families, and neighbors. Let that sink in.

Trump has failed us beyond comprehension. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country denounces the top health expert in our government who is doing everything he can to keep us safe. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country owes our US cities $1.8 million in unpaid police bills for Trump rallies. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country refuses to say that he will peacefully step aside if he loses the upcoming election. When, in our history, have we ever witnessed such behavior? Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country pulls American troops from Europe making America less safe and allowing another victory for his friend Putin. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country contributes to and allows the increase in our National Debt to hit $6.6 trillion and counting, a lifetime burden for our children, grandchildren, and beyond. Our freedom is already lost when the leader of our country along with the Republican Senate allows its citizens to face food shortages for their families, bankruptcies for their small businesses, and loss of their homes. And in turn they do nothing. They go home for vacation, placing themselves above the needs of the voters who trusted them to do their job.

Yes, we have already lost our freedom here in the United States in more ways than I can address. In fact, our loss of freedom in this country is so overwhelming that I didn’t even know where to begin as I penned this letter. There is so much more to be said. That, I will save for another day.

I, for one, am ready for a NICE old man to take over the leadership of my country. A man of high morals, integrity, intelligence, experience, and compassion. VOTE BLUE in November. The RED has had its chance and it has failed profoundly.
