March 22, 2013

It's waste-hauling contract time again for the city of Marietta, and city officials have now pared the original list of five bidders down to two....

The trash is picked up at night, and I'm sure that adds to the cost. Why not pick it up during regular work hours?

I favor the ideas presented to have yard waste hauled away to the Greenleaf composting area a couple of times a year. I'd also like to be able to dispose of large items at a reasonable cost. We don't all have the capacity to take these types of things to a landfill.

Please, please bring back / negotiate for the once or twice a year bulk pick up at no cost to residents. That was so helpful when cleaning out basements and garages. And it helped commercial customers from receiving all that stuff in their dumpsters. That is a problem in Marietta. And how about adding the trash service cost to the water bill (like they do in large cities) so that ALL residents will have trash service?

Slogoin, please don't give Kalter any ideas. His neighbors have to deal with his trash. He must have run out of room at home, he now has a trailer of useless scrap lumber beside the gardens on 6th and Hart Street.

I'm all for RUMPKE! They have always provided good service here in our neighborhood. These men also go out of their way to close the lid on my container and turn over my recycling bin. Now, that might not sound like much but when it has rained/snowed all day it sure helps. Families have way too much trash. It only takes a few minutes to break down your boxes, wash out your cans, jars. Come on people set the example for your kids....RECYCLE! Plus, I know Rumpke's schedule to the last split second. Guess if ain't broke, don't tryin and fix it!

First issue of the day: Trash, we could start by throwing out the current city council men.

Big Nap, Surely you understand that you are paying the commercial also - with every purchase you make. The cost of doing business is passed on to all of us. Council should look at the overall bid price total because that is what we, the consumers, are going to pay. That result is 1.39 million for Rumpke VS. 1.33 milion for Cardinal. Very close indeed. A difference of only $60,000. That works out to $4 per resident of Marietta annually. For a family oif 4 that is $16.00 per year. A good argument can be made that by structuring the price "heavy on the commercial" it causes people from outside Marietta to absorb some of the cost by purchasing from Marietta establishments. With that in mind, it really is a coin toss. If Rumpke is providing good service, why change.

Stay with Rumpke. Citizens would welcome a break.

I would like to see the ability to set out ( any and as much as you want ) per quarter at no additional cost.
