Abbey Marie Fouss and Adam James Schwendeman were united in marriage on Aug. 4, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta. Celebrant for the 2 p.m. Nuptial Mass was Monsignor John Michael Campbell.
The bride is the daughter of Jeff and Melanie Fouss of Lowell and the granddaughter of Elaine Schott and the late Ralph Schott of Waterford and Joe and Opal Fouss of Whipple. She is a 2006 graduate of Fort Frye High School and a 2010 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in Hearing, Speech, and Language Science. She received her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2012 from The University of Akron and is currently employed by Kanawha County Schools in Charleston, W.Va. as a speech therapist.
The bridegroom is the son of Jim and Cindy Schwendeman of Lowell and the grandson of Maxine Schweikert and the late Jack Schweikert of Beverly and the late Cecil and Ellie Schwendeman of Lowell. He is a 2004 graduate of Fort Frye High School and a 2008 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctor at the University of Dayton School of Law in 2012 and is currently employed as an attorney for the law firm of Jackson Kelly PLLC in Charleston, W.Va.
Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore an ivory vintage style satin strapless gown with a chapel train. The bodice was adorned with ornate beaded lace appliques. The ball gown style skirt featured an organza overlay embellished with beaded lace appliques and shirred organza rosettes with embroidered beaded lace and crystals. A heavily beaded waistband with crystals accentuated the gown. She wore a single tiered ivory fingertip veil with sculpted edges featuring a beaded and crystal motif. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white hydrangeas and ivory lilies accented by ivory and light pale pink roses. Entangled within the satin ivory ribbon wrapping the stems of the bride's bouquet was a crystal beaded rosary once belonging to her late great-grandmother, Marie Lang.
Emily Fouss of Athens, the bride's sister, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Katie Fouss of Hackney, cousin of the bride, Jessica Pawloski of Churchtown, Angela Burnett of Dublin, Ohio, Carissa Fliehman of Cheney, Wash., and Amy and Ellie Schwendeman of Lowell, sisters of the bridegroom. They wore identical strapless black satin floor length gowns featuring shirred organza rosettes across the bodice and a satin champagne ruched sash. They each carried a hand-tied bouquet of white hydrangeas and blush pink alstromeria blooms, tied together with black satin ribbon.
Serving as best man was George Heiss of Waterford. Groomsmen included Bryan Heiss and Josh Brooker of Columbus, Alex Heiss of Orlando, Fla., Jared Perry of Cleveland, Jonathan Hall of Washington, D.C., and Dan Rhodes of Dayton.
Prelude and ceremony music was provided by John Ontko, organist; David Turrill, trumpeter; and Cynthia and David Puls, violinist and cellist. Cantor was Melissa Corcoran. Jackie Columbro of Cleveland and Alyssa Klausing of Delphos served as lectors as well as guest book attendants.
A formal dinner and reception was held following the ceremony at The Marietta Shrine Club. Chris Fouss, cousin of the bride, provided music for the evening.
Following a honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, they reside in Charleston, W.Va.
