The body of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Josh Taylor is expected to arrive in Marietta this evening escorted by the Patriot Guard and the Washington County Sheriff's Office. After a flight to Columbus, his body will be returned to the Mid-Ohio Valley via motorcade.
In Washington County, the procession will exit I-77 at Exit 1 and proceed north on Pike Street toward Hadley Funeral Home in the Reno area.
Those wishing to show their support can line up along Pike Street between the exit and the funeral home starting no earlier than 6 p.m., said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Taylor, 21, was killed March 18 by a mortar shell explosion during a training exercise in Nevada. The 2010 Marietta High School graduate had already served two tours of duty -one Afghanistan and one in Kuwait.
Local efforts are under way to collect money for gasoline gift cards to be given to Marines from Taylor's unit who travel to attend his memorial, to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marietta High School.
Those wishing to donate a gasoline gift card or cash can do so at American Flags and Poles at 276 Front St. between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, said Anita White, a military mother who is organizing the collection.
