The 20th annual Gold Wing Road Riders Teddy Bear Run took place on Saturday, May 11, as a fundraiser for the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund, that provides stuffed animals to both community hospitals, year-round. The weather was not perfect, as it has been in the past, but we had several participants who came all the way from Lancaster and Londonderry, Ohio for the annual event.
Although we had less bikes than we normally do for the event because of the weather, we still had a wonderful ride and were able to raise over $500 for the Teddy Bear Fund. Again this year, Gary Carpenter and riders from the Chapter F3 from Lancaster, Ohio, and riders, Gary and Jo Lea Frye came through with generous donations to the fund.
We would like to thank everyone that rode over for their continued support. We would also like to thank John Lehman and Hometown Honda for furnishing the food and drinks and the great starting point for the ride again this year; the Washington County Sheriff's Office for furnishing the deputy who lead us on our ride and the Marietta Police Department that helped us safely through the intersections in Marietta. Without all of your support and help, this ride wouldn't be possible to put together.
Again, a special thank you to all the riders that came out and participated in the ride and donated bears, money and their time for the kids.
Thanks to all the other motorcycle groups that participated and donated to the fund, including our local group, The Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter A-3, Marietta Memorial Hospital, The Marietta Times and hospital volunteers Sallye Bom and Andy Francis for assisting.
The Teddy Bear Run benefits the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund that provides more than 1,000 free stuffed animals to children, aged 6 months to 12 years old, admitted to either area hospital.
Anyone wishing to make a donation may write a check to the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund and mail it to: Volunteer Services, Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Matthew St., Marietta, Ohio, 45750.
